Instead of thinking about new worlds, maybe we can try to understand the World Wide Web in terms of art making and meaning systems we already know, we are, after all, not yet teleporting ourselves, only information: the mountain is coming to Mohammed. We are thus still in the business of representation and interpretation.

I make these large generalizations only to point out that continuation of just one set of problems artists face in the "real" world in the electrosphere. Does the World Wide Web hint at a larger meaning that wells up out of information, the way consciousness does out of our bodies, thus promising a new kind of religion, beehive consciousness or other form of other, or is it merely a collage of intensified bits and pieces of the world as it already exists, scanned and abstracted into a mirror of our reality?
