Roy Ascott's 1989 essay, "Gesamtdatenwerk: Connectivity, Transformation and Transcendence" may help inspire and expand considerations of the notion of Gesamtelewerk. Like Moholy's plea for a Gesamtwerk, Ascott's concept of Gesamtdatenwerk envisions a synthesis of art and life in which individuals actively contribute to the creation of meaning on a global scale.
