Assignment
Electronic Media and Culture, November 20
Final Project
(due Monday, December 18)
Now that we have
surveyed many of the tools and concepts critical to the creation and interpretation
of electronic media, it is up to you to determine your final project.
As a result of class consensus, I am leaving the project wide open, but
here are some basic guidelines and objectives:
- first develop an
idea that will allow you to investigate processes, tools, concepts that
interest you as a result of your study of electronic media and culture
- then determine
the software tools you will use from among the applications we have
covered in class: imaging in Photoshop and Quark, media integration
in Flash or Dreamweaver, hypertexts in Dreamweaver, etc.
- the project can
take the form of a printed piece created in Quark; a screen-based image
produced in Photoshop; an animation or time-based work in Flash; or
a web-based project created in Dreamweaver.
- you may also come
up with a project idea that extends these tools into live performance,
installation, etc. (keep in mind the project must be presented on the
last day of class)
- by the end of class
today, e-mail me a brief summary of your project, I will be on hand
to discuss your ideas
- for next week (Nov.
27), I would like to see a storyboard of your project if you plan on
creating a site, animation, or other time-based work, a rough sketch
will suffice if you plan on working on a "static" visual project.
- the weeks of Nov
27, Dec. 4, 11 will be devoted to working on final projects
- if you plan on
using techniques not covered in class, go over with me to insure you
do not take on something you can't complete
- final projects
are due on Dec. 18th and we will spend the class presenting and critiquing
- there will be no
late projects because I will be turning in my grades the next day and
flying off to Jamaica on the 20th...
