Art - Project 2
Satire and Social
Commentary
of Corporate America
- In the wake of
the collapse of Enron, we will focus this project on portraying and
parodying the image created by corporations, no matter how corrupt or
mismanaged they may be. Case in point: the Enron
site is a stunning example of absurdity with such statements as:
"Today, Enron is in the midst of restructuring its business with
the hope of emerging from bankruptcy as a strong and viable, albeit
smaller, company.
- To carry out your
satirical project, you will create the home page (plus some internal
pages) of a Website of a fictitious corporation by designing and constructing
its contents based stylistic qualities derived from the corporate world.
- You may choose
to exaggerate the positivist message of the corporation, thus masking
its maligned intent, or you may find it appropriate to present your
company as shamelessly evil and conspiring, and making no effort to
disguise its real intent, your corporation may create an absurd or useless
product, or its product may be one that would have no value in the corporate
world, such as art and culture!
- You will design
logos, banners, buttons, etc. as you see fit. You may choose to portray
your site with elements that convey realism, or blur reality and fiction,
or perhaps portray unabashed mockery of corporate culture, politics,
and greed.
- The project is
to be completed on 3.12 (3 weeks from today) and presented to the rest
of the class.
