In the Post Reality, there is no longer separation between that which is real and that which is not. – from The Manifesto for the Post Reality Since completing A Season in Hell in 2010, I have expanded the quasi-autobiographical narrative of my work with a new performance project, The Post Reality Show. With this piece, the aim is to shape a darkly satirical self-portrait: the multimedia artist at work, immersed in the pursuit of impossible dreams within a realm of unlimited, virtual possibilities. The Post Reality Show embraces the confessional and pseudo-documentary style of reality television. The central character reveals himself as a wide-open conduit to the insatiable media culture, exposing the fetish of technology, social media, public exhibitionism, and the desire to share the most inane and intimate details with anyone and everyone. The premise of The Post Reality Show is as follows: after the artist's failed efforts to change the world with the creation of a virtual government agency (US Department of Art & Technology), followed by his dismal journey to the depths of the Underworld of America (A Season in Hell), he returns to his underground studio-bunker in Washington DC re-energized and ready to resume his work. Amidst a battery of cameras, computers and multimedia devices, he re-configures his studio as an elaborate stage set, replete with artifacts and souvenirs salvaged from the Underworld, prepared to execute his alchemically-induced multimedia work for the post reality. With great aplomb and narcissism, he authors The Manifesto for the Post Reality, an ambitious call-to-action, in which the artist declares the daily ritual of making art will be made in front of and for the camera. He sculpts a Website for The Post Reality Show as a high-concept database, where over time, he will index his every thought, dream, frustration, and creative act for future retrieval. After the launch of The Post Reality Show on November 11th, 2011 (11-11-11), the process begins, as the production of the work - an infinitely expanding, instantaneous, distributed gesamtdatenwerk - becomes, nothing less, than the artist's story for the world. Stay tuned! Project Website: The Post Reality Show
