Stadium
Stadium,
founded by Ron Wakkary Phil McConnell, chose its name "to relay the
idea of stadium as an arena for discussing, engaging and presenting the
aesthetic possibilities of the network." During the past few years,
Stadium has exhibited Net Art by Lawrence Weiner, John Simon Jr., Maciej
Wisniewski, among others. Simon's work in particular, Every
Icon, has come to be known as one of the most significants artworks
on the Web. In early 1999, Stadium joined Dia
Center for the Arts, noted for showcasing important new Net Art, including
Komar and Melamid's Most Favorite Paintings, where it is now called Stadium@Dia.
The site continues to "focus on realizing site-specific art works,
as well as documenting past works made of 'ephemeral media,' art works
that may not survive the vicissitudes of 'real' or 'commodity' space..."
