Art: Teleportacia

At the heart of the Net.Art movement, Art: Teleportacia is an exhibition organized in 1998 by Web artist Olia Lialina, Vuk Cosic and three other artists. The site houses works by European artists that respond to and ultimately rejects artworld commodity constraints that often serve to shut out emerging artists. Art: Teleportacia artists also react to the corporate-driven high bandwidth, rich-media tendencies of digital art, by producing elegant, often subversive work that luxeriates in the simplicity of HTML, ascii, and other "low-resolution" aspects of Net Art. This work, perhaps best exemplified by the artists Joan Heemskerk and Dirk Paesmans, whose work Jodi.org has captured the attention of the mainstream artworld with awe and disdain. Other important works by internationally known Web artists Lialina, Cosic, and Alexei Shulgin andHeath Bunting, have established Art:Teleportacia as perhaps the most historically significant exhibition on the Web.
